Why do I need to convert to an RII?
The Australian Government in 2011 decided to harmonise the resource and infrastructure industry ticketing legislation to follow the mining industry system and issue statements of attainment based on competency and currency, and WHSQ no longer regulate and enforce people to hold tickets.
The responsibility and duty of care of workers is now on behalf of the employer or contractor, and aligns with the responsibility mining companies provide, and require from their workers or operators. This is the reason your employer ensures you are compliant prior to starting employment or if already employed, require you to convert your tickets to the Resource and Infrastructure Industry RII system.
The issue of RII Statements of Attainment (competency-based tickets) are issued after demonstration of competency and currency of the skill, of the way you operate, and your understanding of overall safe operation.
